GatherGrounds Resorts acquired The Oaks Campground at the end of the 2025 Season. Our close proximity to major metro areas like Detroit and Fort Wayne, make us a popular place to escape the city and enjoy nature. Situated next to Waterloo State Recreation area, Haehnle Bird Sanctuary, and Portage Lake (an all sports lake),  The Oaks Campground has 155 acres to explore on the property, and thousands of acres of bird watching, riding trails, and lakes surrounding the park.

Anglers love our large fishing pond with options for dock or bank fishing—an easy, low-stress way to spend an afternoon and a great first experience for kids. Adventure continues off the shoreline on 120 acres of golf cart riding trails winding beneath towering oaks and through meadow views; it’s the best way to explore the property, catch a sunset, and find your favorite picnic spot (please follow posted rules and speed limits). Around the campground you’ll find playgrounds for the kids, pavilions for reunions and group hangs, and events every weekend during the main season—think themed activities, crafts, and friendly competitions that bring people together. The camp store keeps the little things covered—firewood, ice, essentials—and the big cravings, too, with hand-scooped ice cream that turns any afternoon into a mini celebration.
