About Our Campground
GatherGrounds Resorts acquired The Oaks Campground at the end of the 2025 Season. Our close proximity to major metro areas like Detroit and Fort Wayne, make us a popular place to escape the city and enjoy nature. Situated next to Waterloo State Recreation area, Haehnle Bird Sanctuary, and Portage Lake (an all sports lake), The Oaks Campground has 155 acres to explore on the property, and thousands of acres of bird watching, riding trails, and lakes surrounding the park.
Anglers love our large fishing pond with options for dock or bank fishing—an easy, low-stress way to spend an afternoon and a great first experience for kids. Adventure continues off the shoreline on 120 acres of golf cart riding trails winding beneath towering oaks and through meadow views; it’s the best way to explore the property, catch a sunset, and find your favorite picnic spot (please follow posted rules and speed limits).
Around the campground you’ll find playgrounds for the kids, pavilions for reunions and group hangs, and events every weekend during the main season—think themed activities, crafts, and friendly competitions that bring people together.
The camp store keeps the little things covered—firewood, ice, essentials—and the big cravings, too, with hand-scooped ice cream that turns any afternoon into a mini celebration. Welcome to The Oaks Campground, your family’s new spot to unplug under mature oaks, splash in the lake, and enjoy wide-open space. Tucked in southeast Michigan, we’re an easy drive for anyone searching for campgrounds near Ann Arbor, Jackson, and Detroit, and a convenient stop for road-trippers from Toledo, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Peaceful nights, roomy sites, and plenty to do make us a favorite for quick weekends and longer stays alike. Our spring-fed swimming lake with a sandy beach is the heart of summer—spread out your towels, build a sandcastle, and step onto sand, not mud, as you wade in.
The floating Aquaglide water park, new in 2026, adds slides, obstacles, and splash-worthy challenges to your lake day. Grab one of the campground-provided lounge chairs on the beach early, or spread out a picnic on the lawn on the east side of the swim lake while the kids play.
