Other campgrounds in Northeast Ohio worth knowing

Northeast Ohio has a good mix of places to camp, and the right one depends on what your family wants from the trip. A few honest pointers:

  • Clay’s Park is the most resort-style, amenity-heavy campground in the area, and it is priced accordingly.
  • Woodside Lake Park and Lake Milton KOA are well-amenitized family options.
  • West Branch State Park and Nelson Ledges State Park are lovely state parks. Nelson Ledges is about 10 minutes from Ridge Ranch, so many guests camp here and spend a day at the ledges.

Ridge Ranch fits families who want the campground itself to be the trip: a 17-acre lake with a new sand beach, a Wibit floating water park, a free Kangaroo Jumper, an arcade, an Amish-built lakeside pavilion and events most summer weekends, just off I-80.

Northeast Ohio camping questions

What part of Northeast Ohio is Ridge Ranch in?

Ridge Ranch is in Newton Falls, in Trumbull County, about 20 minutes from Warren and 40 minutes from Youngstown, with Akron under an hour and Cleveland about an hour and 15 minutes away.

When is the camping season?

The season runs May 1 to October 20. The Wibit is open Thursday through Sunday in summer and closes after Labor Day; October brings fall color across the lake.

Can I stay just one night on an I-80 trip?

Yes. Gravel pull-through sites 22 to 26 have 50-amp service for an easy in-and-out, and the gate reads your license plate, so there is no office stop.

Planning a reunion or group trip?

The pavilion can be rented for family reunions and group gatherings, and day passes are available for guests who aren’t staying overnight. See rates, reunions and day passes.
