Ridge Ranch Campground Pet Policy: Leash Rules and the Dog Park
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Ridge Ranch Campground. Here are our dog rules, the reason behind each one and a few tips for a relaxed weekend with your pup. The complete posted rules are on our map and rules page.
Our dog rules, and why we have them
A 6-foot leash everywhere but the dog park
Dogs stay on a leash, 6 feet or shorter, or inside your RV, everywhere in the park except the dog park. Not everyone is comfortable around dogs, and even a friendly dog can startle a toddler on a bike or another dog out for a walk. A short leash keeps every family relaxed, from the lakefront sites to the store.
Off leash in the dog park
Our dog park is the place for off-leash play. Let your dog run, chase a ball and meet other dogs while you relax, then clip the leash back on for the walk to your site. A good run there before a beach afternoon also helps a dog settle in at the site while the family is out.
No pets on the beach or in the lake
Pets aren’t allowed on the beach or in the lake. The reason is sanitation: the beach and swim area are where kids play in the sand and families swim and float on the Wibit, so keeping pets out keeps the sand and water clean for swimmers. Plan beach time with that in mind, and keep your dog cool back at camp.
Pets stay out of buildings
Pets aren’t allowed in the store, the restrooms or other buildings. Many guests have pet allergies, and our renovated restrooms and store are shared by everyone in the park. If you’re heading in for ice cream or a turn in the arcade, have someone wait outside with your dog or leave it comfortably in your RV.
Never left alone outside
Please don’t leave a dog alone at your site. A dog left outside can bark, get loose or overheat, and it can feel threatening to kids walking past. If your dog is comfortable in your RV, that’s fine; just keep it cool and quiet so your neighbors can relax too. And please clean up after your pet every time.
No breed bans, just friendly dogs
We don’t ban breeds. Breed isn’t a reliable predictor of behavior: many dogs of so-called aggressive breeds are calm, and a dog of a gentle breed can be reactive because of its history. So we look at how each dog behaves. Every dog at Ridge Ranch needs to be friendly, and a dog that shows aggressive behavior will need to leave the park. The safety of the kids and families around it comes first.
Tips for camping with your dog at Ridge Ranch
- Bring a 6-foot leash. Retractable leads usually extend past 6 feet, so a standard leash is easier.
- Pick a shady site for summer. Sites 33–61 have old-growth shade and no neighbor behind you, and the full-hookup sites 65–131 sit in a heavily wooded, quieter area.
- Plan Wibit and beach time around your dog. Since pets can’t stay alone outside, a cool RV or a family member at the site works best.
- Bring water and a bowl for walks around the park on hot afternoons.
- Dog lovers’ event: our “Blankets for Love, Vincent” event has guests tying blankets for terminally ill dogs. Check the events page.
