An East-Side Camping Weekend From Kalamazoo
The Oaks Campground is about 77 miles east of Kalamazoo, on 155 acres in Munith next to the Waterloo State Recreation Area. It’s a change of scenery with trails, lakes and wide-open grassy sites.
Why Kalamazoo families camp at The Oaks
Kalamazoo families come east for a different kind of weekend: the Waterloo Recreation Area next door, the Haehnle Bird Sanctuary on the campground’s border, riding trails and a fishing lake.
Check-in is no-wait so you drive straight to your site, short-term RV and tent sites have a fire pit and picnic table, and the camp store has groceries, ice, firewood, ice cream and bait. See the full list of amenities and activities.

What’s waiting for you

Mountain bike and golf cart riding trails, a fishing lake on site, and the Portage Lake boat launch nine minutes away.

Waterloo next door
The Waterloo State Recreation Area is less than five minutes away, with lakes, hiking and riding trails. The Haehnle Bird Sanctuary borders the campground.
Weekends bring themed events hosted by the park, and the pavilion is available for group gatherings. See this season’s campground events calendar.
Seasonal sites for Kalamazoo-area campers
